Why aren't they each in a car?

Knew someone would ask. The one on the right had a defective/faulty/fucked up timing chain sprocket. Caused timing to jump around intermittently, rough run, CEL. Metal shavings in the oil. Putting in a new engine, oil coolers and hoses to make sure that there won't be any contaminated oil going through the new one. Probably could have fixed it but had no way to be certain I would've gotten out all of the metal shavings, don't want there to be a question of its long term viability.

Ok, i'll pick em up later if you don't mind.
Don't worry, I won't need help carrying them either.

A long time ago, I had a 250 with metal shavings in the oil ... my first of 3 Mercs. It was not the best car I ever owned.

Not fun when that happens. At least this one is under warranty.

The left one is in the car already. The right will be going back to Mercedes. I'm trying to convince parts to let it go "missing" straight to my garage.
Disclaimer for Mercedes: Don't punish me, just kidding, wouldn't do that.

I like warranties. Especially on expensive and complicated German things.

We've got a few Range Rover supercharged V8s and V6s that have been laying around for months. Maybe it's time to clean up the shop a bit. (I'm pretty sure they're so royally screwed that even RR doesn't want them back.)

Aren't there always dozens of dead rover engines laying around rover shops?
Couldn't help myself. That actually surprises me a little bit. But even the best engine model will have a fluke here and there. Mercedes wants this one back very badly so they can investigate and hopefully prevent it from ever happening again. I don't know of this ever happening before.
